Dual processor question regarding widgets
Published on September 13, 2005 By joeyinpa92 In Desktops
Hi Y'all,
I bought a new PC about two months ago, a Gateway 835GM with the "new" Intel Pentium Processor D, dual processor 820.
I'm curious if anyone knows if any of the widgets support it (the dual processor)? And if not, will it cause problems to attempt to use a widget that shows the cpu speed?
I hope this isn't a 'dumb' question! Thanks for any advice or responses!

I have never tried it - single core here - but if you are running Windows and other software on the machine, there is no reason to think it would hurt anything.

Windows will protect itself, so the widget will either report correctly, or not.

If it fails, simply clear the cache for that widget by deleting the folder that bears the widgets name in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX\Widgets" folder.

For more on clearing the cache, you can see the mini tutorial here http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?SID=5463&AID=82461

Note - this is based on widgets downloaded from the library here at WC.

Joey Lee, check in Task Manager (alt-ctrl-del) on the performance tab and see if it reports one graph for CPU or two. If it shows just one it probably averages the information provided and would work with most or all widgets. If you see two different graphs you can probably still use the widgets but you won't get accurate information.
